Breeding Plans

I started breeding dogs in 2002 and I worked very hard to do it right, to breed responsibly, ethically and for the betterment of the breed. I followed best practices, mentor advice and of course my parent club expectations and code of conduct.
Recently, I have concluded that my breeding career has come to an end. One of the things that ever ethical, responsible breeder offers is safety for their puppies for the life of the dogs they bred. A promise to take a dog back regardless of reason for the life of the dog. I am now in my 60s and if I produced a litter today I could be in my upper 70s if a puppy had to be returned and I can no longer guarantee I could take that puppy back during it’s lifetime. Plus breeding, whelping and raising puppies is a lot of mental and physical labor that I am not sure I could or would do in the future.
So, I am preparing my whelping supplies to either sell or pass along to new generation. I am sad there will be no more Solstice Cardigans born here but I will continue to support and champion the next generation of breeders.
