Tattle with a tail or who needs Lassie?

January 10, 2010

Yesterday I was doing house chores so Wicca and the Cardis were out in the yard.  A little while later I hear Lindy barking at the door (what is new about that, Lindy barks about everything) this was a very insistent bark and it was just her at the door.  As I was headed to the kennel door the phone rings and it is my Mom calling to tell me all of my dogs were at her house.  Somehow the gate between our yards had not been closed correctly and PJ, Frost, Bailey and Wicca went over for a visit.  But Miss Tattle “tail” was narcing on them.

This isn’t the 1st time a Cardi has acted as a tattle tail, Stoney was nominated for an AKC ACE award for his alert barking when my Grandmother had fallen in the back yard.  He also alerted me when the GSP puppies got tangled in some weedwhacker line that the yard men had left down in the yard.

I know my dogs all have different barks for different things and I have learned to pay attention because sometimes they really do have something important to say.

Dogs are sure good at being in the wrong place at any time. Glad you have a tattle tale, but I still need my “Lassie” dogs.

You have Lassie and a Cardi in a Lassie suit you should be well alerted!

I don’t think non-dog people fully realize the range of communication our dogs are capable of, or else they are just not tuned in to it. Ian only had to come into the bathroom and give me The Look for me to know that Elli was in another room doing something she wasn’t supposed to. It couldn’t have been any clearer had he suddenly spoken English. I realize that dogs are not human and shouldn’t be anthropomorphized, but each one is sure his/her own little “person.” 🙂

Both Teddy-Henry, and Phoebe, are very vocal, and very alert. The least little thing that is out of place, or a strange shadowy presence, causes the barking to commence (much to our neighbor’s chagrin!).

Not Teddy H! He would never bark 🙂 At least not unless he thought it was important LOL!
