My First Cardigan
Here is a photo of my 1st Cardigan, Fred. This photo was taken in the summer of 1975 in Murphy, NC. This dog belonged to the neighbors and he followed me home from school one day and would never stay home after that so the neighbors gave him to me. Being a city girl I at 1st thought he was a fox. I studied my dog breed book and decided he was a Cardigan Welsh Corgi.
We were pretty poor when we lived in NC so there wasn’t a lot of money for film and developing so there are not a lot of photos of him. I found one other that you can see him from a distance. Long, Low and a bushy tail.
He was a great dog, went everywhere with us as we explored the mountains of Western NC either on foot or on horse back.
When I started looking for another breed it was the memory of Fred which brought me to Cardigans.
Sorry for the photo quality but it is the best we could do.
Fred and Pumpkin (the cat)
That photo isn’t bad considering how old it is. I remember corgi’s from my childhood and my brother mentioned them the other day. I guess he remembered them, too. Fred and Pumpkin are cute together.
I guess they stick in your brain forever!
Fred was a gorgeous dog! Thank you for sharing your memories with us.
Yep, I think Fred was a Cardi. Or a Cardi mix with more Cardi genes than something else.
As for the pink trio, I love ’em! I think the ee reds are really pretty as babies. Personal preference likes them to stay somewhat light when grown, as I don’t care for red Cardigans, per se.
I would definitely say Cardigan…so glad you remembered your first dog and ended up with all of us in the Cardigan world! 🙂 We’re glad to know you!
awww – what a great picture!!! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your memories of Fred with us! 🙂
Fred sure looks Cardi to me, aside from the color. And Pumpkin reminds me of my Timmy cat. Orange tabbies, if you never have had one, are very different from other colors. They are very friendly and love unconditionally.
He was a good dog.
Yes he was, even with his bad habits 🙂 He was a good and loyal friend to us wasn’t he.
What a cutie!
