Plotting and Planning

July 3, 2009

Part of the fun of dog breeding is the plotting and planning of each breeding.  Sometimes you see dogs in your heads and think if I do this or that I’ll be able to create this picture in my head.   I started in German Shorthaired Pointers, a breed I love very much but as a breeder of GSPs I had one litter of 2 pretty girls and I could never see the next step.  I spent a lot of time trying to plot my next step and it never happened.    When I started in Cardigans and began to look at dogs and pedigrees and I started to see those dogs in my head.  It took awhile for me to get started but I think I’m on my way, or at least I have a plan.

The next step in the plan is a little bit unconvential.  Lindy will be bred to a lovely young dog named Oscar.  Now the unconvential part Oscar is a Fluffy Boy.  He is a young dog with lovely structure and a lovely pedigree.    I had Lindy DNA tested for the Fluff gene and she came back clear and Oscar’s hip x-rays look good (we have copies).  I’m excited about what this breeding could produce, those dogs in my head again.

Lindy is expected in season in early fall so we will be looking at early winter puppies.    Updates as they happen.

Are there any stacked pic of him? How young is he? Will he be old enough to breed this fall, or is that picture just old?

I’d love to see him grown up. He was an adorable baby!

    Good luck Lindy!

Ditto…would love to see adult pictures of the planned sire – gorgeous puppy. And Lindy is knock-yer-socks-off gorgeous! Can’t wait to see puppies from these two.
