2010 Dog Show Recap

October 19, 2010

I know it is just mid October and we are just coming off a week + dog show trip to New Mexico but it is time for our year-end review of Dog shows.  Since Lindy has been bred we will staying close to home on puppy watch for the rest of the year.  Her 1st due date is 12/6/10 which will cause us to miss the local El Paso shows.

I didn’t get to show as much this year because of a 6 month work assignment which kept me mostly at home from mid March thru mid September.  Even with the limited showing I’m happy with the results.  Lindy finished her Championship with a 5 point major.  All the little girls, Frost, Bailey and Banner were awarded minor points this year so they are well on their way towards their Championship.

Our little fuzzy face Sienna, the Brussels Griffon is learning to be a show dog and my Mom and I are learning to groom a Griff, Sienna was 1st or 2nd in her class 6 out of 8 day in NM with major competition last week so with some maturity she should be a contender the next time out.  We attended the Griff seminar and learned a lot and got some nice feedback on the littlest one.

As always with dog breeding and showing sometimes you have to make a tough decision about a dog you love and that is what we have done with Charlie.  Although he is a nice doge he didn’t grow into his potential and promise and although he is pointed and with some time and effort could certainly finish his championship we have decided that he will move from being a nice dog to a Super Star!  His owner Cody Smith is really enjoying training Rally and Obedience with him and she has been working with her trainer Dina Whitehouse of K9 Funworks http://www.k9funworks.com/training.html.   Dina asked me once “have you seen this dog work?” which is obedience trainer speak for “he could be a superstar”.  Cody is doing a great job with both Charlie, Solstice Flying Ace and Bonnie, Arylan Flight from Justice and we hope to be cheering them on at the local trials this winter.  Depending on puppies, Frost may be ready to try her paw at Rally this January too.

In other performance news PJ’s red daughter Lucy, Rockie Top Fire and Ice has her 1st Agility title.  Her red brother Finn is working on Obedience too.  Polly Cole (Frost, Finn and Lucy’s breeder) and Pippen (their Mom) are working towards their MACH and even more herding titles.

Speaking of herding, Lindy, Charlie and Bonnie all passed their 1st leg of the AHBA herding instinct test this past spring.  Lindy now thinks she should herd everything; me, the other Cardis, Wicca etc.  Maybe that wasn’t such a good idea :-).

So now we sit and wait on puppy watch, our next outing will most likely be in March since I don’t think we will get to start the year in Hobbs like we normally do since the babies will not be old enough to travel (I’m thinking positively).  If we don’t make AZ in March our next show will be the CWCCA Nationals in Houston, TX in April 2011.

Stay tuned for puppy news.

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!

October 12, 2010

Weekend one of Dog Show week is over and it was a good one.  Good friends, good dogs and good weather!

Solstice and Arylan had all the class entries this weekend so we knew we were going to win, it was just a matter of who and when.  Friday and Monday Harry’s littermate Oz and Lodi (Banner’s litter) were WD/WB.  Oz was WD/BW/BOS all four days.  Can’t be sad about that since we just bred Lindy to him.  Saturday and Sunday Bailey was WB.   Little Sienna was the open class winner for the 1st time.  She was either 1st or 2nd all 4 days and starting to get the show thing down.

We went to PHA handler Ric Plaut’s handling class on Friday night, Purina sponsors him and he has been doing it at this show for about 5 years and I learn something new every year.

Other pluses, I got to see my friend JP of Chromadane and help be her Dane holder a couple of days.  Here lovely Harl girl was WB/BW at the Dane Speciality for a major and then WB again yesterday.  Pretty nice.

I got to see our friend Phyllis and super Toller Ranger do the new Beginner Novice class, kind of interesting.

Another big plus is we got Lindy bred and now we watch and wait.

All and all a fun weekend.  So today I pack up the RV so we can leave tomorrow for another long weekend.  2 days of Toy shows and 2 days of All breed coming up with major points available.

The Chosen one

Lindy

Lindy came is season this past weekend.  I expected her to make me wait until all the other girls had their turn (because I was waiting for her) but she surprised me and came in right in the middle of things.   I hustled her up to Albuquerque to stay with Harry and her intended Oz aka Arylan Mint Proof.

Oz is the littermate of my lovely Banner and I’m excited to see what this breeding produces.  Lots of good stuff that hopefully all fits together.

This litter should be born around the Winter Solstice or a few days before.  I expect an all Tri litter.  Lindy has tan points and Oz has brindle points.   If you are interested in this litter please let me know and of course updates will come in the blog and on facebook.

Look at this lovely movement, I stole this photo from Harry’s website www.arylan.com you can see more photos of Oz and his pedigree at the link below.

Banner,  Arylan Flying the Colors at Solstice was awarded her 1st point at the Rio Pecos KC in Roswell, NM earlier in the month.

Here is her 1st photo.  It was really hot and windy and we had to wait awhile for the Beardie and the Collie to get their hair straight.  Not bad for the baby girl.

I’m very happy with this pretty girl.

Dallas

September 22, 2010

Here are some pictures from my trip to big D. My friend Laurie and I had a fun time. We went to the Dallas Arboretum to see the Pumpkin village and did some shopping and lots of eating. We saw the Cowboys get beat by the Bears in the amazing Cowboy stadium.  Just a fun girls weekend!

I do miss the dogs when I go without them.

Close Encounters of the doggy kind

September 14, 2010

The night sky in Roswell, NM is that a UFO?

We are home from a successful dogshow weekend in Roswell, NM.  3 of the 4 Cardis enter got points, Charlie, Frost and baby Banner all were winners this weekend.

We had a good time after a long dog show dry spell.  We have two more show weekends schedule for the year, maybe a 3rd in December depending on how things work out.

Is this a captured alien? Nope, it is Baby Banner! How can this be comfortable, this crate is plenty big enough

This has to be an alien right?  A little green man, they use this on their photo stand.

Of course Sienna sort of looks like an alien, she is an alien in the land of Cardigans 🙂
