Lena demos how we spent today and how we might spend tomorrow.  We have been on the go since I got here and what is a vacation without a little down time.

Lena is my beloved Woo’s littermate and she has been my bed buddy since I got here.  She is a bed hog too, must be genetic.

Ok, I fell in love with Fenway and I guess now I’m a Sox fan.  What a cool park!

Most of these photos were taken from my seat in Right Field.

Boston Day 9 Pilmouth Plantation

September 15, 2009

Monday’s weather on a scale of 1 – 10 was a 10.5  a wonderful late summer day in New England.  Linda was at the AKC delegates meeting in New York so Kevin and I spent the morning doing chores and then went down to Plymouth to tour the Pilmouth plantation www.pilmouth.org.  It is a recreation of the Wampanoag Homesite and the 1627 English Village of the pilgrams.

After our day at the plantation we went back to Plymouth to the harbor and ate clams at Woods fishmarket on the dock.  We watched fisherman unloading their catch and then ate ice cream and walked along the harbor, a really enjoyable day!

Back from Cape Cod

September 15, 2009

We arrived on the Cape on Wednesday and it was a nice cool day and the set up went well.  This is a four day cluster Thursday – Sunday.  Thursday and Sunday are the Cape Cod KC shows and Friday and Saturday are the South Shore KC shows.  These shows average 1100 or 1100 hundred dogs I think.  A nice size show with a couple of specialities and this year hosted the Otterhound Club of America Nationals.   I had the pleasure of stewarding for the Otterhounds both Thursday and for their Nationals on Saturday.  As a rare breed you don’t get to see them often so it was a treat to see 50 of them in one place.

This dog Ch Scentasia’s Shake Rattle N Roll won the Nationals and I believe also won the group one day too.

Thursday after the show my friend Heidi picked me up and took me to her home in Brewster.  We had a great dinner!

I met Heidi back in El Paso years ago when she was my first Shorthair, Snert’s vet.  We have stayed in touch through the years and I was thrilled to be able to spend a little time with her.  I got to meet her animals, her Coonhound Frito even slept with me 🙂

Heidi’s turkeys are famous, they have even made the Cape Cod Times newspaper.

Friday and Saturday were Linda’s shows and it was unfortunate the lovely weather didn’t hold…

The weather cleared for Sunday’s show and even with the bad weather the New England exhibitors made the best of it.  I saw some very nice dogs and some great handling.  The Show committees really go all out with the Hospitaliy.  The food was great and they really take care of their people and it is always great to work with the folks from both clubs.  A job well done!  I can’t wait to come again.

Boston Day 4 – BEER!

September 8, 2009

Guess where we went today?

Sam Adams 024

That’s right we did the Boston Brewery tour http://www.samueladams.com/world_of_beer.aspx, it was lots of fun.  We learned about Hops and Barley and the process of the making of the beer, Hops, Barley, Yeast and Water = good beer.  We got to do a taste test  and vote for our favorite which will be introduced at a later date.

I voted for the Ale

I think Dave needs these for his brewing.

The tour was great we got to taste the Boston Lager, the Octoberfest beer and the special Red Brick which is only available on tap in the city of Boston.

Boston Day 3 – The Freedom Trail

September 8, 2009
The Freedom Trail is the national recreation trail that passes thru Bostons historic sites.  There is a brick/red line marking the way to following.  We spent the day walking the red line and soaking up the history of the birth of  America.

The first burial was in 1630, Mary Chilton, the 1st pilgram to touch Plymouth Rock is buried here as is William Dawes who also rode on the famous midnight ride.  I can imagine it is spooky at night.  But I was touched by the respect shown to these long gone people.

There are many people in the city who love their history and do a wonderful job bringing it to life for visitors!

The Old North Church also called Christ Church is the oldest church building in Boston built in 1723.

We also stopped at a few other places along the way, Paul Revere’s house, Faneuil Hall, the Parker House Hotel (not on the Freedom trail but for a foodie it was interesting to see where they invented Boston Cream pie and the Parker House Rolls.  We also had a great lunch at Durgin Park http://www.arkrestaurants.com/durgin_park.html

Once again the weather was perfect, we had a great day!  But after two days of walking the city my feet are tired!

PS:  We got free parking again!  Do you think I have lucky parking Karma?

Boston Day 2

Today it was all about the Harbor or HA Bore.  This morning we went downtown and snagged a Free Parking space which apparently is a big deal in Boston and went to board the Spirit of Boston www.spiritofboston.com for a  lunch cruise of the Boston harbor.

Boston Day 2 044

The weather today was perfect, right around 70 degrees and sunny.

After the cruise we walked along the Rose Kennedy Greenspace in downtown Boston.  This lovely garden area was once a highway but Boston’s Big Dig put the highway underground.

After the walk thru the green space we walked along the Harborwalk back to the car.  Along the way we saw this street artist playing the “buckets”  he was great!

Boston Day 2 067

After the Harbor we went to Castle Island – Fort Independence http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Island_(Massachusetts), unfortunately the Fort was closed be the time we got there but the park was wonderful and it was sure being enjoyed by lots of local people, fishing, flying kites, walking/biking on the paths.  Lots of folks walking their dogs.  It is funny how Linda, Kevin and I always call out the breed whenever we see a dog.  It has been interesting to me that most people in Boston have purebred dogs, not a lot of mixed breeds out and about.

SWA got me to Providence pretty close to being on time.  Which was pretty cool considering I was flying cross the country.

Once I got there we went to WaterFire in Providence http://www.waterfire.org/about-waterfire/welcome

Boston Day 1 042

Linda and Kevin picked up Pizza from the best place in Providence and we had a picnic.

Last time I was here we got to see part of the Old Stone Bank building (now belongs to Brown University) but this time they were having a private party that we sort of crashed, the building is amazing.

Anybody need a puppy?

September 4, 2009

My best friend and kennel partner Leslie of KeelMtn is one of the good guys, but I’ve said that before :-).

Leslie got a rescue call and took in a young Cardi or Cardi Mix girl and her 3 new born puppies.  This girl was found under a bush in a rural area and the puppies didn’t even have their eyes open yet.

Well Bonnie (the momma) and her 3 Bush Girls, Barbara, Laura and Jenna are now healthy and ready for adoption so if anyone is looking for a nice medium sized dog and you are in SE USA check out the Bush Babies at www.keelmtn.com

What happens when you pack a suitcase

September 4, 2009

I’m getting ready to leave for my trip to Boston and what happens?  Frost comes in season, Lindy isn’t in season and everyone is blowing coat!  Lindy was supposed to be at Arylan to be bred to Oscar but she isn’t cooperating.  Of course now that Frost is in season, I’m expecting Wicca to come in next and I’m sure Lindy is going to just drag it out.    Of course poor Grandma Ginger has to deal with the hormones.    Right now Bailey Bug and Frost will stay with Grandma and if Wicca comes in Frost will come home and PJ will stay with Grandma.

Of course all this would be easier if either Lindy or June Carter would come in season because then Lindy and PJ could go to Arylan for their “dates”.

One way or another I’m leaving on a Jet Plane for a vacation!  Watch the blog or facebook for my travels.
