Goodbye to an old friend
We are having a bad month here at Solstice. We said goodbye to our old friend Dublin today.

Dublin was a cattle dog cross that was a birthday gift to my little brother 14 years ago. I got her from a co-worker who had a litter of cattle dogs but as you can tell it looks like some other type a dog came a courting.
Dublin grew up with a bunch of frat brothers, then lived the single guy life, she loved pizza and french fries and hated the mailman and yorkies. When my brother moved to Dallas for his job 5 or 6 years ago she came to live with my mom and grandmother on a temporary basis. Once Randy was settled, Mema told him he could not have his dog back. She became my grandmother’s dog and then when Mema passed away she transferred her alligence to my Mom. Dublin took each new Cardi visitor in stride, she tolerated the puppies and really liked Henry, she would always play with him.
She was an old dog who learned new tricks, she learned to be an RV dog, and a Dog Show visitor. She went with us whenever my Mom went to the dog shows with the gang.
She had an enlarged heart and on Monday she started having breathing problems, by Tuesday she was weak and today she left us on her own. We are thankful she only had a couple of bad days.
She was a good dog, a funny dog, a smart dog, the yappy hour hostess and a good friend. We will all miss her.
Rest well and easy old girl, you were loved.
A dose of cuteness
Harry has new Ali x Oliver puppy pictures up on his site www.arylan.com the babies have their eyes open now.
Cute, Cute, Cute!
Happy Birthday PJ!
The little man, along with his littermates, is 2 years old today, I’m sure he doesn’t really care unless he gets extra food.

Here he is in his favorite place, the kitchen drop zone.
Now that he is 2 he starts his official health tests. OFA xray is scheduled for 1/27.
Sock Monkey
or………… What do you do with 2 dozen mis-matched socks?
I was going to toss them but then I remembered, ah ha we have a new puppy coming soon and it is always nice to have something fun for a puppy to destroy so I made some silly sock toys and put them in the toy box.

I figured that they would just stay in the tool box but no……….. 8 year old Stoney dragged everything out of the toy box in the night. I woke up hearing something bumping around, and yes, he had turned box over and was dragging them all over the living room.
I hope that means the baby will like them too.
Cardi Bloggers Weight loss challenge
Our blogger buddy Laura at Coopercreek Cardigans http://coopercreekcardigans.blogspot.com/ started us all on a pre nationals weight loss challenge. She has been very busy with a new grandbaby, Congrats to Grandma so I thought I’d post this week’s challenger reminder.
I hope everyone is still working hard and now working off the Holiday weight. We only have 3 months left before the nationals. Let’s eat right! All you folks out there in the cold part of the country stay warm by not eating 🙂

These photo was taken on 1/3/09 and is a typical El Paso, Texas sky. We have 300 days of sunshine.

Now for something happier……….Puppies
Polly sent new puppies pictures tonight, it was just what I needed. Here are some of the kids at 9 weeks.
Rockie Top Flying Snow aka Frost, Frost will be co-owned with Kathy Davis of Dwysan and she will live here at Solstice with her Daddy PJ and the rest of the gang.

The red girl I called Firecracker will be staying with Polly at Rockie Top. Polly was calling her Kate and now Lucy so currently she is Lucy Kate? Polly says her formal name will be Rockie Top’s Fire and Ice.

This is Big Red, we would really like to find him a show home, he is really turning out nice.

A butt shot of Big Red 🙂

Here are JR and Spot, both looking for great homes. Spot is the kind of puppy who will need a job. JR is much more laid back.

Isn’t Jr a cutie! Got his Daddy’s face.
This is Spot, a handsome boy.

And of course a cute group shot.

Just a Dog…………
I can’t even tell you how helpful your words of comfort have been. It is so wonderful that there are so many people who understand the love and loss of a dog. The comments on the blog, the emails and phone calls were so heartfelt and helpful. Thank you. So many of the comments were from people I don’t know personally and I appreciated the fact that so many people all over the world understood the hurt and that it is more than “it’s just a dog”.
I know I did the right thing by my Woo. There are still tears.
The Gift and the promise
I’m sitting here in the dark watching the clock. Waiting until normal morning so I can make one of the hardest choices anyone who loves their dogs has to make. To keep my promise and give the gift of goodbye.
My beloved Woo has turned that corner. Several months ago she was diagnosed with cancer and all that time on meds she has pretty much been her same Diva like self. Demanding, loving and beautiful. We had a good holiday season, she enjoyed the left overs.
I spent a long New Years weekend at home. Windy was feeling fine until Saturday night and she acted a little anxious. On Sunday morning and afternoon she was a bit wobbly but we had a cold front come thru and I just thought she was feeling the effects but by Sunday evening things had changed. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain and her mind is active but she has lost control of rear end. She can stand up but can’t make it go where she wants it too go. She is like a drunk hugging the walls and falling over and she is scared. My poor girl is scared because she doesn’t know what to do with herself and I’m scared that she will hurt herself and cause herself pain.
My heart tells me no but my head tells me that I have to keep the promise I made 12 years ago to take care of her and keep her safe.
She has been the greatest gift to me and I will be forever in her debt for those that she has brought into my life.
So for now we will sit together in the dark, waiting so that I can keep my promise to her and give her the gift of peace.
Promises kept, Godspeed Dear Woo
