Mile High Mommas!
I love to brag on my doggy family. We call it being related by dog. This weekend in the Mile High city (Denver) some of our dog family did wonderful things. It was a wonderful Momma Dog weekend!
Banner’s momma Chickie, Eklectic Arylan Chiquita Banana finished her Championship (for the second time). Last year at the Albuquerque cluster Chickie was awarded her 2nd major and what Harry believed to be her final points towards her AKC Championship, there was much celebrating and Gruet drinking but after a couple of weeks of waiting nothing came from the AKC confirming her Champion status. When records were checked lo and behold Chickie only had 14 of the required 15 points towards that championship oops a miscount somewhere. Chickie had a “date” already lined up and she had her 2nd litter with that single point still pending. This weekend in Denver at her 1st show back she and Harry were awarded WB for her again final Championship point, so once again pending AKC approval Chickie will join her kids Banner and Oz as a Champion!
In order to acquire the MASTER AGILITY CHAMPION title, a dog must achieve a minimum of 750 championship points and 20 double qualifying scores obtained from the Excellent B Standard Agility class and the Excellent B Jumpers With Weaves class.
MACH Points
750 points required minimum
• 1 point is awarded for each full second under standard course time. (No partial points are awarded.)
• Dogs earn points from the Ex B Agility class and/or the Ex B Jumpers With Weaves class.
As you can see not an easy Championship to gain and lots of team work involved. Frost is just starting her Agility career with her beginner classes and her Sister Lucy is on her way to following in her Momma’s paw prints. Pippin has passed along her talent and we are proud to call her Momma! Congrats Pip and Polly!
Bye Bye Big Van

About 9 years ago I did something crazy and bought an E350 Ford Van, it was really a bus, 15 passenger. I bought it off Ebay and put it on a Visa card. I loved my big van, held every thing multiple Shorthairs and Cardigans and it towed my travel trailer. It went on lots of fun adventures. This weekend I traded it in for our new Wag Wagon, a big change!
The Solstice crew will now be traveling in our 2012 Honda Fit (or the motorhome) gas milege was the big factor, I could not afford the gas on the van for every day use (a 50 mile round trip to work every day) so I drove a lot of cars but this was the Fit was the best fit!
I am sure it too will take us on many adventures.
Ch Mariel Flying Spirit, RN
PJ hasn’t really been shown but 4 or 5 times as a Special, he finished from the puppy class and aside from the Cardi Nationals he hasn’t been out in a couple of years. I thought it would be fun to take him to Hobbs and it was! We had an entry of 27 and so his 1st Grand Champion outing netted him a 5pt GCH Major. My best guy!
It was a Banner day!
Quick weekend round up
Our 1st show of the 2012 can be counted as another successful outing for the team!
We drove to Hobbs, NM to meet up with the rest of the Team from Arylan to attend the Hobbs Kennel Club show. The Cardigans were the power breed of the weekend with an entry of 27 (I think). As usual the SW Cardigan fanciers worked together to build an entry for the weekend.
On Saturday the Team (Solstice/Arylan) had 9 dogs entered and 8 were shown. We did pretty well, PJ, Ch. Mariels Flying Spirit, RN was awarded BOB on Saturday. I had just entered him for fun on Saturday so I was thrilled with my main man! I guess since he got a Grand CH major I will need to continue. In addition to Harry showed Rider, Arylan Custom Goldwing to WD/BW for another 4pt major. Rider is from the Lindy x Oz litter and was Harry’s pick. Another just for fun entry was the Cardigan Brace, Frost and PJ went on the represent the Herding Group in the Brace BIS competition.
Sunday our numbers dropped from 9 to 5 with just the class girls showing since the boys were being held out so they can compete in the classes at this year’s Nationals. The Arylan team walked away with another major win as Harry’s blue girl Lia was WB/BOW and Oz picked up some additional GCH points after been awarded Select Dog.
All and all a great weekend, good dogs, good friends and nice site. Got to love the dog show!
I did get a photo for PJ’s win since I realized the last show photo I have of him was when he was in the Megan as a puppy. I have only had him out a few weekends since he finished so it was a fun win. Good Boy Pjeeeg!
Thanks for visiting!

Puppy Planning
Hopefully in late spring young Rider, Arylan Custom Goldwing, will be a daddy dog.
Kennel Arylan www.arylan.com will be expecting puppies later in the spring. Both Chickie, Eklectic Arylan Chiquita Banana, and Lodi, Arlyan The Mother Lode are being bred to Rider. These are both Tri to Tri breedings so only Tri colored Cardi puppies are expected. Chickie is Banner’s momma and Lodi is Banner’s sister so I’m excited to see these babies! If you are interested in puppies later this spring check out Arylan’s website for more details.
Part of my excitement is that later this year I’m planning to have a Rider daddy litter here at Solstice too. I’m hoping things fall into place and Frosty, Rockie Top’s Flying Snow, RN will be bred to Rider as well.
Both Frost and Rider are just a few single points away from their AKC championship and I’m hopeful that they will both be Champions by the time the breeding takes place. Super excited as both Frost and Rider and beautiful examples of the Cardigan and exemplary canine companions.
