A busy weekend
The Solstice collective had a busy weekend. Cody and her team Charlie and Bonnie had a successful run at the Mesilla Valley KC super match this weekend getting Qs in Rally Novice, Beginner Novice and Novice. Not to be left out both Banner and Sienna (the flea) were entered in the Conformation portion of the match, since both are over a year they were in the Adult classes. Banner won the herding group and but she missed out on Best Adult in Match when Sienna beat her!
Sienna was a hairy little beast since she has been on a grooming vacation since October but she is really starting to look good and the practice is always helpful.
Then they went shopping. What else would a girl do to celebrate a big win.
In Puppy News, the little darlings deceided they didn’t like their whelping box and howled to get out every time I put them in it so I took it down and they are very happy in their xpen world.

Mom is a good cook! Puppy gruel is good.
4 weeks already?
What are we going to call these puppies?
The Holiday treats will eventually need real, fancy AKC registered names and half the fun of breeding a litter is coming up with a litter theme. I kicked around a few and am still working on where to go with the theme. I do register the entire litter and I ask new owners to get involve in the name process.
Lindy’s name is Flying Start and I called her Lindy after Charles Lindberg, we also call her Lindy Hop or Hoppy. Oz is Mint Proof, his litter mostly had a gold theme. Most of the Solstice Cardigans have the word FLY as part of their names.
The treats were born on Pearl Harbor day 12/7/10 so I am leaning towards a WWII theme. Easy for a boy but not as easy for the girls. Currently, it is looking like Nog will be going to Houston (dependent on final evals etc) and I know he will be getting a “smart” name. But we still need names for the girls. I’ve come up with some and gotten some suggestions so here is what is on the table so far:
Pinup Girl
Fly Girl
USO Girl
Silverwing
Tokyo Rose
Pearl Harbor
Donut Dolly
South Pacific
Victory Garden
Rosie the Riviter seems like an obvious choice but I know of another young Cardi girl who already has that name so that one is our of consideration.
I’d love to hear other ideas.

Post Party?
Three week update
I’m late by a day, I was sidelined by a germ that Santa brought to me.
All the babies are closing in on 3lbs with Miss Fudgie being the biggest and Cookie being the smallest. Candy and Nog are neck and neck.
Everyone is doing well, getting teeth which means I’ll be doing the feeding and clean up very soon. Lindy continues to be a wonderful Mommy but she is starting to get bored which means she is demanding more attention from me.
It is supposed to get colder over the next couple of days (I know east coast and south people it isn’t really cold) but colder than we have been having so I put a snuggle bed in their box today. Some like it some don’t but they look cute.

I’m a Humbug……..
I’m working today, “keeping the promise” as we say around the Farm. Mostly I’m doing it because I get a big holiday paycheck and because I don’t have any frantic Christmas plans.
This year I had even fewer plans than in years past. I’m mostly just annoyed with the whole “Holiday Season”. Maybe it is a humbug moment but it just doesn’t seem to mean much anymore. Maybe the childhood joy has gone from me and because I don’t have any human kids in my life I don’t get recharged ever year. Or maybe it really has lost its meaning. I think it is all the “shopping” that mostly gets to me.
As soon as Halloween is over the retailers put up their Christmas displays. Instead of spending time with your loved ones on Thanksgiving people had to run out at night and “shop”. The radio stations start playing Christmas music before the Turkey is carved.
I watch my friends and co-workers stress and run around and cry about how they are broke from spending all their money. I listen to people yell about the crowds in parking lots and that it wasn’t their fault that they backed into someone else in a parking lot fighting for that space. It is getting insane.
Having my little Holiday Treats aka the puppies Candy, Cookie, Fudge and Nog has taken some of the pressure off of me this year because I have a different focus and maybe with that different focus I paid attention to what else was going on around me. Also their arrival took up a crucial 10 days right in the middle of the Holiday prep season which again gave me leave to just not do the prep.
So my Holiday pluses are these: I get a kick out of wearing my silly Holiday hats and dressing up (torturing) the dogs and listening to my Holiday Ho Ho playlist on the Ipod. I enjoyed the Holiday greetings from friends in all forms, cards, emails, blog posts and Facebook greetings. I had fun with Cardi Claus and making the Holiday Granola for my co-works. I’m looking forward to visiting with my family and friends, eating Christmas Ham with my Mom and Cody tomorrow. I’m thrilled with the early Christmas gift my brother gave me (the Thermawhelp for the puppies) and all the other gifts that I may get from people who love me or pretend to :-). I’ll enjoy sharing gifts with my friends now and later in the year. I’m enjoying the puppies and the lovely El Paso weather. And I’m happy that with the season comes the close of a mostly happy and healthy year.
So after writing this all out maybe I’m not such a humbug but just a learning to appreciate doing things my way.
I hope everyone out there in blogger land can also appreciate doing it your way too.
Merry Merry!
I see you…………..
This morning all our little Holiday Treats had their eyes open. Fudge was 1st followed by Nog and Candy. This morning little Cookie joined them in seeing the world.
I promise to try and get some photos tomorrow.
