2009 Plans

lindyfront3

Just a hint about what is coming up in 2009 for Solstice.

Breeding plans, 1st up is our PJ x Lindy breeding.  We are waiting for Lindy to cooperate, I expected her in season in mid November but neither she or Wicca (GSP) have come in season and last time they came in on the same day.  I’m hoping now that they cooperate and neither one of comes in until after Christmas which will mean February puppies who would go home in April.  2nd on the list is PJ x Candy, Candy is expected in season sometime in February, Leslie is planning both a Pem and Cardi litter in 2009 so it depends on her girls as to who is 1st.  If she has a Pem litter 1st Candy will wait until summer to be bred.

Arylan is expecting a litter on New Years Eve out of the pretty Powell daughter Ali and Oliver  www.arylan.com

I am planning on attending the CWCCA nationals in Topeka, KS in April.   Mostly like PJ will be the only dog shown from out kennel but you can’t pass up the nationals.

Our spring show all hinge on Lindy but I think we will get to start off the season in Hobbs, NM like usual.

Of course there also might be a new addition  here depending on how Pips girls grow up.

With dogs there is always excitement and challenges to look forward too.

Cindy at Foggy Bottom tags us with the question, 6 things that make us happy:

The dogs will answer:

1.  Food, everyone loves food, treats, goodies, special dinner and Mom like Italian.

2. Barking, everyone but PJ loves barking.  PJ just barks when he has issues.

3. Rawhide bones and toys.  Windy loves rawhides and to kill all stuffy things, rest of us just like them.

4. Our RV, we get to go places and take our house with us.

5.  Going places, any place.

6. Yappy hour at Grandma’s house.

Aside from Italian food, Mom likes all that too but she also includes us (the dogs) and her people, sunshine, the open road and cheaper gasoline 🙂

holiday-010Happy Holidays!

Tonight we tried to take photos of the Cardi kids in their Holiday hats.  Lets just say I laughed alot and they think I’m nuts.  Needless to say these shots will not be making it onto a holdiay card.

Henry was actually the only one who left his hat alone but of course he wouldn’t stay on the sofa.  My Mom gave it her all as photo assistant but as much as they love their Grandma they were having none of the hat wearing.

I told them that this wasn’t the last of the holiday hats they could expect another try on another day.  Stay tuned!

One of the good guys

December 7, 2008

My dearest friend Leslie (and Bob) of Keelmtn Corgis http://www.keelmtn.com/ is one of the good guys.   Responsible dog people help support rescue but some people are better at it than others and Leslie is one of those people.

Earlier this year Leslie took in Gabi, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, who is a puppy mill release, prior to coming to Keelmtn Gabi had never had a name and wasn’t really a dog, just a puppy producer.   She was very overweight and other issues.

Leslie has been making great progress with her and she has been learning how to be a dog.  She looks so much better now!  She even as a different look in her eyes now.

Gabi will soon be looking for a home of her own and I’m sure she will make some one with a calm household a wonderful companion.

The last of the November Skies

The last of the November Skies

This was taken the day after Thanksgiving at an El Paso park called Rancho del Sol.  It was a park I’d never seen before and we discovered it while geocaching with my cousins.  It looks out over valley.

The sky was too pretty to resist.

Crazy Stoney

December 1, 2008

fb8d4808

Stoney is a funny dog, he is my 1st Cardi and is now 8 years old.  He is my 1st agility titled dog and was always interesting to run.  He really loves the contacts.  Stoney has his CGC and also was a TDI therapy dog and an AKC Canine Ambassador, he also was an ACE award nominee.  Stoney retired from the show ring with 16 or 17 points and at least 6 major reserves (best of the losers).  Stoney beat some really good dogs including a BIS dog and a winner’s dog from CWCCA nationals.  If we had been showing in another time or region he might have finished.  He was fun in the ring but outside of the ring he was a pain.  He is very dog aggressive and pretty much hates most other dogs.    Since it got where it wasn’t fun to take him out he retired from competition.

But just because he retired from competition doesn’t mean he doesn’t still love agility.  Every night I let he and Windy out into the agility yard.  Stoney takes off and runs the course, he loves the Aframe, tunnel and teeter and he runs around with joy on his face so I make sure he gets his yard time.  Silly dog!

Now that he is retired from public appearances he hangs out in the house and sleeps on my bed.  Windy tolerates him and he knows she will kick his butt so he stays on her good side.  I guess he doesn’t mind being retired.

The Christmas edition of getting to know your blog friends

November 30, 2008

Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends. Okay, here’s what you’re supposed to do, and try not to be a SCROOGE!!! Just copy this entire post and paste onto your blog. Change all the answers so that they apply to you. Tis the season to be NICE!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both, depends on the size of the gift but I do better with bags.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial.

3. When do you put up the tree? I don’t put one up at home but the one at my Mom’s house goes up sometime after 12/5.  My college roommate’s Bday is 12/5 and we never did Christmas until after 12/5 and I still don’t.

4. When do you take the tree down? New Years week.

5. Do you like eggnog? yes with booze 🙂

6. Favorite gift received as a child? A play house that my dad built.  He built it right in front of me as a shed but Christmas morning it was painted and dressed up with a big bow and the address 2222 1/2 Pepper Rd painted on it, that was our address in Florida.

7. Hardest person to buy for?  My brother, he lives in Austin now and I don’t always know what he needs or is into if he doesn’t give me a list.

8. Easiest person to buy for? Leslie, I aways have some idea for her.

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, at my Mom’s house, it as always been my job to put it out.  Kinda funny for those of you who know me don’t ya think.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail when I get around to it but I always email my Solstice greetings on the Winter Solstice.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Things that were just given to give a gift that I knew was a “regift”.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? A Christmas Story!  I also love Miracle on 34th Street

13. When do you start shopping? When I have money 🙂

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? No

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?  Baked goods, including fruit cake, we have an old fruit cake receipt that our family has made for years.  Yes we send them to people, and if the usual folks don’t get one they are calling wondering when it will be arriving.  My brother and I call them booze logs since they are soaked in brandy.

16. Lights on the tree? Old fashion big colored lights

17. Favorite Christmas song? God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen  and Deck the Halls

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Home

19 Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel

20 Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Morning

21. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? How stressed people get and that it is more about gifts than about the joy of the season.

22 Favorite ornament theme or color? Snowpeople

23. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Posole that we have Christmas Eve

24. What do you want for Christmas this year? Not a darn thing that I can think of.

25. Who is most likely to respond to this? The other blog folk.

This was fun, made me think of some fun Christmas memories to start off the holiday season.  Hope everyone enjoys the holiday season and doesn’t put to much stress on themselves.

Bright Blessings!
