Nothing to see here……. Move along

It is National Watermelon Day which is a favorite holiday for the Solstice gang. Of course FiFi has become the all time Watermelon eating champ and she claims her piece and makes sure no one gets in her way she has her piece and she will steal any melon that is left unattended. She has learned to recognize a watermelon and at the 1st sight of one she starts to bark and dance around.
We haven’t had much to write about lately, nothing really going on other than the normal day-to-day life at home, dogs hanging out in the pool, eating watermelon and plotting a raid on the garden.
I am getting ready to leave for Dixon, CA for the fabulous Richmond Dog Fanciers Show. It will be fun, with an almost 1800 dog entry it is always exciting to see a lot of dogs I normally don’t get to see in person. I am especially looking forward to this year as I am on the judging panel, I am doing the herding puppy group! How much fun is that going to be. I love our show and am proud to be part of the team that puts on the event. This will be my 5th year.
On the puppy front, Puppies are expected at Arylan in a couple of months. So if you are looking for a Cardi puppy check out www.arylan.com for details. The next litter at Solstice won’t be for another 9 or 10 months.
Happy Birthday Lindy Hop
Isn’t she a pretty?
The Trendsetters…………
We have been very proud to see lots of Cardigans enjoying their versions of Watermelon Sunday or Friday or Monday. I admit to a little thrill that the Solstice dogs started a Cardi Trend!
Enjoy summer and the pursuit of the perfect melon!
Resting on our laurels
Since there is nothing dog show related going on for the next 6-8 weeks (other than coat maintenance, training and conditioning) we are just resting on our laurels. I was very excited to get the CWCCA bulletin and read the judges comments on the Nationals class wins.

What is CHIC?
The Canine Health Information Center, also known as CHIC, is a centralized canine health database jointly sponsored by the AKC/Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF) and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). The CHIC, working with participating parent clubs, provides a resource for breeders and owners of purebred dogs to research and maintain information on the health issues prevalent in specific breeds.
The CHIC also maintains a DNA Bank, co-sponsored by the OFA and the AKC/CHF, collects and stores canine DNA samples along with corresponding genealogic and phenotypic information to facilitate future research and testing aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited disease in dogs.
The requirements for the Cardigan Welsh Corgi are:
- OFA Evaluation – OR
- OVC Evaluation – OR
- PennHIP Evaluation
- CERF Evaluation
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) DNA Test
- OFA evaluation from an approved laboratory
Oklahoma…………
We are home from the Summer Classic in Oklahoma City. What a great show, nice site, good panel and super nice host clubs. If you can go to this one next year give it a try.
Bailey, Banner, baby Fifi and I traveled to to Albuquerque, NM on Monday to start our journey. We joined up with Harry and the Arylan team to make the road trip up I-40.

Rider, Arylan Custom Goldwing (Lindy x Oz)

We arrived in OKC and were met by the host club members who had dolly carts and hauled all our gear into the grooming area. The Summer Classic had a tropical theme and there were many set ups that were really decked out but we did our part.
The Solstice girls weren’t as successful in the ring as I had hoped, there was a lovely entry with lots of nice competition. Congratulations to all the weekend winners! We had some class wins and Bailey was RWB on Friday from the BBE class. Baby Fifi had a great time both in and out of the ring. But just because the girls didn’t come home with points doesn’t mean we weren’t winners. Harry’s Arylan Team had a heck of a weekend. His 8 month old BBE dog, Owen, Arylan Silver Service (now Co-owned with Helen Keever of Houston, TX) was WD/BW both Thursday and Friday for a total of 7pts both majors and a Group 4 in the BBE group. But that wasn’t enough fun for him or me either. Sat and Sun baby Rider, Arylan Custom Goldwing (formerly Nog of the Poopies) was WD/BW for 7pts both majors and a Puppy group 3. Momma was proud!

Rider and Harry working it in the Puppy Group Ring

This show had the special baby 4-6 puppy groups on Friday afternoon so Harry took the babies Poko, Arylan Papa’s in the Pokey and Angie, Arylan Papa was a Rolling Stone into the puppy group. Our friend Helen helped out by taking in Miss Angie. This photo made me laugh, I said the puppies were possessed by dog show fever!

Miss Isabel and Peach, Peach’s new family picked her up in OKC and she started her new life in Chicago

I am pretty sure this brave handler won the best tropical dress contest, they had my vote.

Four day shows take a lot out a dog, so the poor sad show dogs had to go back to the hotel to relax.

Of course once you get home you need a vacation from your vacation

We are home now for the rest of the summer dog show wise. I’ll be headed to Dixon, CA for the fabulous Richmond Dog Fanciers show the 1st weekend in August, but I work and the dogs stay home.
It’s the economy, stupid!
From this……………..

To this…………………… (27mpgs)

We leave for our dog show trip tomorrow and it has been interesting transferring 3 dogs worth of stuff from the Big Dog Van to the Little Dog Car. We will be gone a week so I need stuff too but of course getting the dog stuff in is the most important. You get spoiled with lots of space. You have the space, you fill it up.
This will be the 1st attempt to go to a show in the car but the difference between $120 for a tank of gas vs $40 for a tank of gas allows me to travel outside my normal show area this summer. Bailey will be happy since she gets to ride co-pilot all the way to OKC it is her favorite spot.
Wish us luck, baby FiFi will be in her 1st show in the 6-9 puppy class, Banner in Am Owner Handler and Bailey in BBE. The Arylan boys Owen and our Rider are also in their 1st shows too.
I am Cardi hear me ROAR!

Or is Einie saying “count my teeth”? Or even more likely “where is my breakfast?”
